Fluffiness.

It was a beautiful weekend after all the rain! I feel much better after having spent a few days in bed being suuuper sick. Yesterday was spent admiring the beautiful puffies in those blue skies with the sun in my face and wind in my hair.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
 Now, back to the grind.

Teaser.

Hello all! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. It was rainy and windy here in SoCal but I didn't mind so much since I spent my entire weekend working. But, it was definitely cold and once again, the hubbs and I have been hit with some kind of illness. Booo. You're probably thinking dang, they're so sickly--well, I'm thinking the same thing. Daaang!
The last few weeks I've been brainstorming about new and different elements that I could incorporate into my blog. I thought about doing a Wow Wednesday or Monday Madness or Thursday...well, you get the point. But nothing sounded cool enough. And, I just don't think I can commit to something every week.
I decided since I didn't have enough energy to do a full outfit post today, I would leave you guys with a teaser. And voila! Just like that, I had it.
So, welcome to your first teaser here at A Rae of Style. And may it be the first of many. Isn't it fun to use your imagination?  :)

Still seeing red.

Ohhh my. I just couldn't help myself. I know it was Love Day worldwide earlier this week and I'm sure everyone's had enough of the pinks and reds but it's simply one of my favorite colors. Soooo, please excuse me and thanks for allowing this one small post in our blogosphere! It is much appreciated.

Freebie.

Aside from hitting up the local thrift stores, I also like to check out yard sales which spring up like weeds around our neighborhood every weekend. Digging through other people's stuff is like a treasure hunt. You never know what goodies you'll find in what other people consider trash. In case you didn't know, I looove a bargain. And this shirt was better than a bargain! It was basically free. And by free, I mean 50 cents! Scoooore! I absolutely love the color, pattern and the four gold buttons on the right sleeve (unfortunately not easily seen in these pictures). And it was 87 degrees today which made it a let's-get-some-sun-on-those-legs day for me. These silky shorts used to be a one-piece jumper but I didn't care for the top part too much and just did a quick diy fix.

Happy weekend everyone!

My mind is playing tricks on me.

Do you ever have those days where you walk out of the house thinking you look decent, only to come home after a day of running errands and catch yourself in the mirror one last time and realize how awful you looked in what you were wearing? Uggghh. Prime example in this post. I walked out of the house thinking my legs looked thin and miles long, just like my lovely blogger friend Oomph. I thought my wonderfully drapey shirt covered my happily stuffed with hot cheetos, Cap'n crunch and other terrible-for-your-health-but-oh-so-yummy-junkfood treats mid-section. Boy, was I wrong on this one. It seems as if my outfit looked waaaay better in my head than it did in real life.
Sigh. Oh well. There's always tomorrow. And maybe tomorrow my thoughts won't get lost in translation.

Counterculture.

Hey all! I just wanted to take a second to tell you about the hubbs and his new blog. He finally got sucked into this wonderful world of blogging! Counterculture is a blog comprised of his photography and other things that he finds interesting, mainly any and everything extreme. He is a huge adrenaline junkie. So, I would love for you to stop by, check it out and pass it on. And by all means, follow if you feel inclined to do so. :)

These pics were taken by the hubbs at a RAW artist event at the Hollywood Playhouse this past week. We had a grand ol' time being around super creative cats. Check out the entire post here at COUNTERCULTURE.

By the way, if you are in the LA/OC/IE area and you know of an event (extreme or not) that would be interesting to check out and cover, email the hubbs (Phillip Allende) at 626counterculture@gmail.com or drop him a line at http://image-river.blogspot.com/.

Thanks a bunch and maybe we'll run into each other at an event! :)

Joke's on me.

Lately, the weather has been extremely deceiving. I wake up to find the sun shining and it looks like a perfect day outside my window. I get up to get ready for my day off and browse the contents of my closet to find something spring-like to match the glorious day ahead of me. I am ready to face the world in a short sleeved, airy frock and brrrrrrrrr. I am suddenly hit with a severe case of the goosebumps and my poor little tropical self withers in the crisp, brisk air. And so back I go to sadly hang up my perfect spring outfit and mourn over the lack of heat in layers of black. Saaad.

With the exception of the boots (DSW), watch (Guess-gift) and gold necklace (my Gmama's), the entire outfit consists of items of clothing bought and layered from a local store.

Button down.

Today was a classic kind of day. I wanted to bring it back to the basics. I love the look of a crisp button down shirt and jeans. Sometimes classic can seem boooring, but I thought I'd give it a little 1-2 punch with some sky-high platforms. And these puppies were definitely high. I had to find my center of gravity when I first put them on. This is what happens sometimes when I don't wear heels for a week and no longer hit the clubs every weekend! Oh, the memories of being young with no responsibilities! But, once I strutted my stuff across the living room, it all came back. Just like riding a bike. Ohhhhh yeeaaah!
